    Fox Wood Beck 3 by Jane Stanbury

    At the testing site the water was clear. 100 metres up at the outlet pipe the water was bluish with foam and smelt like drain water, it still smelt like this about 50 metres down. There is usually rubbish coming down the steep bank (from the car park) and there was quite a lot in the undergrowth on the other side of the bank, like it might have got washed up there following heavy rain.

    natural debris in the water, and lots of swans. local area seemed healthy on the bank. no sign of insects or other animals

    active insects on surface (pond skaters?) creating lots of movement and ripples. No insects visible in sample. lots of natural debris on surface, human litter visible nearby. Mallard on water.

    Algae (green and brown) on this side, not as much as in May. Algae (green and brown) at northern near inlet from Rambeck. Freshwater mussels, no fish or snails observed. Floating duckweed. Mallards and swans. Two coots nesting in centre of lake,

    Small fish seen for first time, possibly two types. Small snails on side and bottom. Water very clear. Lots of insects - blue dragon/damsel flies. No algae on this side. Swans, mallards and coots

    Birds nearby (identified via Merlin app) --heard but not always seen: chiffchaff, wood pigeon, blackbird, blue tit, song thrush. Pond skaters on water surface, insects flying above.

    Himalayan Balsam on the banks. Birds heard (identified via Merin app) but not always seen: robin, blackbird, magpie, song thrush, blue tit, long-tailed tit, wood pigeon, blackcap. Some litter around the beck--cans, plastic bottles.
