Outflow from GSTW into Wey Natural River: Trunley Heath Road by Trevor Murrells

I have not answered most of the qualitative questions above due to sampling straight from the pipe. The river water directly below the pipe was brown/opaque and there was some foam a little way downstream. The estimate of water flow is replaced by flow from the pipe which can be slow, steady or surging.

Natural Wey River at Unstead close to bridge (Northside) by Trevor Murrells

Bough of willow tree leaning over into the river

  • 22 September 2023

Hell Ditch, Godalming by Annabel Gibbs

cattle grazing in adjacent field. Very heavy downpours in previous week so water level higher and faster than usual.

  • 22 September 2023

Godalming Wharf - River bend by Sainsbury's by Annabel Gibbs

Building work still ongoing at Sanitation station. Water level higher and faster than usual following heavy downpours.

  • 28 August 2023

Polsted Lane/Withies Lane stream by Trevor Murrells

Some sediment/sand. From this test point the water flows under a tree into a ditch into a nearby field. A local person walking by said that ideally the water should flow along a pipe to the pond near The Withies Pub but the pipe has become blocked and the pond is now dry. Water should flow out of The Withies Pond into a brook. Apparently Surrey County Council (SCC) are going to try and unblock the pipe in the autumn (November?). The pipe is under common land i.e. not owned by anybody hence the reason why SCC will be doing the work.

  • 26 August 2023

Landings Wood Stream by David M Jones

Water level and speed of flow slightly higher than 'average', owing to periodic rain showers over past few days in our area.

  • 26 August 2023

River wey - Hellditch source (need to check) by Alyson Canton

Quantitative results will be added once David shares from the notepad

  • 26 August 2023

Cattle on Lammas Land but with no access to water at this testing site.

  • 26 August 2023

Godalming Wharf - River bend by Sainsbury's by Annabel Gibbs

Groundworks in progress on bank in front of Godalming Sanitation Station - diggers have removed retaining wall etc (Axtell)

  • 25 August 2023

Natural Wey River at Unstead close to bridge (Northside) by Trevor Murrells

The location is shaded by trees. The fallen tree has slowed down the flow of water at the point of testing. The river is moving more quickly in the middle/other side of the river bank. This side of the river is grazed often by cattle although we did not see any today. The cattle tend to access the water for drinking further downstream. This land is owned by The National Trust.

From Godalming Treatment Works by Kat Kavanagh

Some foam from the water source but did not smell like soap (earthy smell) so unsure of the source. We saw a snake!

  • 25 August 2023

Unstead Exit (outflow) by Trevor Murrells

Dense coverage of aquatic plants & stinging nettles on/close to the pond/lagoon bank side. There is a reed bed between the exit point and the slightly more open water where the sample was taken. Water flowing into the exit point is a mixture of water that has been filtered through either multiple reed beds or just a single reed bed.

  • 25 August 2023

    East Lagoon by Kat Kavanagh

Path was quite overgrown. Saw a dragonfly!

  • 25 August 2023

Outflow from GSTW into Wey Natural River: Trunley Heath Road by Trevor Murrells

Trees line the riverbank, there was a bag of discarded rubbish on the riverbank, there was a (washing machine) smell when the pipe was discharging more strongly. We tested nitrates and phosphates twice when there was a gentler flow from the pipe, and when there was a more surging flow. The results were the same. There was bubbling and some foam immediately below the outflow pipe following the stronger surge.

Peperharrow swimming spot, by fish bypass by Rachel Hargreaves

Lots of Himalayan balsam by riverside

  • 16 August 2023

Broadwater lake outflow by Annabel Gibbs

Alerted by Instead Wetland Reserve Warden to unusually dark water entering Way at Broadwater Outflow. Very dark in colour, with oily patches on surface. Reports that this may have been caused by the removal of fallen willow from ditch in the morning - base of willow black, maybe burnt?

Landings Wood Stream by David M Jones

Our first test at this new site. Landings Wood Stream, Surrey, United Kingdom Small woodland stream on our housing estate in Godalming, Surrey, UK. Located on an 'island' between a loop of the River Wey on the south and the Wey Navigation on the north. It is a small, vigorous stream that flows off the River Wey and runs through the estate, under Blackburn Way to emerge in the woodland on the estate's north-east quadrant until its confluence with the mill race on the east side of the estate near Weyside Close.
