I had a little trouble with my new test strips when I did my observation. Today I followed the directions on the bottle exactly and the numbers seem more normal.

Prince Edward Point by Don Ross
Sunny , humid day with fairly stiff winds. Less than 1 MM rain in past 24 hours. Water was still up over the limestone ledges but not as close to shore as last month so was able to get out to get a proper depth reading from the edge where it drops off. Some seagulls out over the water, cluster flies and a lot of dragonflies swarming around above the nearby roadway into here.

Sunny , hot and humid with some storm clouds gathering over the lake now…fairly calm though. No rain in past 24 hours. Few seagulls around and lots of green algae bloom…will be nice when they get the fountain fixed that aerates the water here in the inlet along the dock. Spoke with the captain of the harbour cruise boat who was interested in the work I was doing and gave him some info to follow up online to learn more about WR.

Cherry Valley Lions Memorial Park Boat Launch Dock by Don Ross
Hot , humid and hazy day with calm wind and water. No rain in past 24 hours. Lovely green frog hopping around . Lots of green algae bloom on the water near launch and dock. Spoke with 2 fishermen and gave WR cards to them. One young chap heading out in his canoe…his partner is an environmental technician so he would give her the info to check out the site. He says not as many fish caught this year, likely due to extreme heat he thinks, but ones caught are bigger than usual…even the sunfish. Catches bass, walleye and pike here normally. Also said on Lake Ontario around PEC the Gobi fish are taking over and some days that’s all they catch…..not a good sign to see those invasive species becoming so prevalent.

West end of Hamlet of Milford at furthest west end of Millpond by Don Ross
Hot, humid and hazy with not much wind and no current on the pond. No rain in past 24 hours. Few swans on the pond at the eastern end, and some dragonflies catching bugs over the water surface. Lots of heavy weeds on both sides of the bridge here and no water at all coming over the waterfalls and stream for quite some time now.

23 August 2021
Smiths Bay by Don Ross
Mostly sunny, hot & humid with some clouds around. About 11 MM rain in past 24 hours in Milford area. Some seagulls and cormorants out on the rocks and a few chipmunks running around. Not much boating activity on the bay and too calm for sailboats. One boater leaving the launch area and leaving behind them a trail of gasoline residue floating atop the water……not uncommon at all to see this and most boaters don’t recognize their impacts on our waterways when these amounts add up and don’t just disappear magically!

10 August 2021
Prinyer’s Cove Source by Don Ross
Sunny, hot & humid with some clouds building over the lake and moderately windy. No rain in past 24 hours. Some songbirds can be heard but not seen. Few white moths and some flies around. Lots of lily pads and bullrushes here, and algae bloom as the water is very still and it’s a marshy end of the bay.

Prinyer’s Cove Park & Boat Launch by Don Ross
Mostly sunny, hot and humid with some storm clouds building up over the lake…we could sure use some rain as haven’t had any for a week or so now. Some horseflies being a nuisance, otherwise not much life stirring in this heat, apart from a Mom & child swinging on the park swing , a sailboat on the lake and a crazy Water Rangers cyclist from Milford :)

Sunny with some thunderclouds forming out over the lake, and medium winds. No rain in past 24 hours. Some sailboats out on the lake and some folks along the beach swimming. Chatted with a lady who was telling her young kids about protecting nature & gave her a WR card to show them when they get online . Also gave some cards to the young lady who is working for Quinte Conservation this summer at the gate here, as she’s returning in the fall for Yr 3 of her Environmental Science degree at Trent University.

Glider planes flying nearby.
