Picton Harbour at Mouth of Marsh Creek by Don Ross
Sunny and windy day with no rain in past 24 hours. No wildlife to be seen or heard. So much green algae and disgusting looking stagnant water and heavy brown weeds under the surface. The conductivity was “ Off The Charts “ at 741 and took it multiple times to be sure it wasn’t a mistake…it wasn’t! Have never had such a high reading in the 5+ years we’ve been testing at any location. Will report to Quinte Conservation in case this is something they want to follow up on.

Little Bluff Conservation Area by Don Ross
Partly cloudy and calm day with just .4 MM rain yesterday. No wildlife seen or heard today. Few people along the beach. Spoke with a young man who showed interest in what I was doing. He is a geologist from the Caribbean who now lives and works in Canada. We spoke about the huge differences we find in our tests in The County from what we find in Northern Ontario and New Brunswick, and how much influence rock structure has on water. Gave him a WR card to learn more about what it’s about.

28 June 2022
Prinyer’s Cove Park & Boat Launch by Don Ross
Partly cloudy today with no rain in past 24 hours. Pair of commercial fishermen coming into dock from setting their nets as I was testing so had a nice chat with them about the lake conditions and our water testing. Directed them to the site for more information. They mentioned when I asked what changes they’ve noticed on the lake over the past few years : more blue/green algae blooms, Asian carp and some other invasive fish species like Tench and Zander which they report to the Ministry of Fisheries when they find them in their nets. Good indicators of lake health though is their spring catch of yellow perch being very good and they’re a fish that prefers clean waters so this is a good sign.

27 June 2022
Black River outflow to Lake Ontario by Don Ross
Overcast and very gusty winds today with about 3-4 MM rainfall over the past 24 hrs. Strong current flowing today. Depth measurement taken from shore instead of middle of bridge as current making it too difficult. I would view it as being about average given the waterline along the shore being normally what is here.
-
14 June 2022

Sunny with just a few clouds. Songbirds and seagulls around. Saw what appeared to be either a Marten or Otter swimming in the harbour but only saw the head from a distance so unsure what exactly. Also some large carp or suckers swimming in the water along the dock.
