    Pond is near a school and residential. Ice still on most of the pond. Beautiful unseasonably warm day out - sunny about 59 degrees.

    Brainard's Branch, Grand Ave bridge between 19th and 20th Sts by Pamela Moriearty

    Low temperatures and snow event in early February which persisted until 2/10 when higher temperatures led to start of ice melt on larger Kickapoo Creek. Surface of Brainards Branch was still ice-covered on 2/14/26 under and near the overpass where samples were taken. Small areas (approx 15 cm diameter) of open water seen upstream and downstream. Area large enough to collect sample was present by 2/16.

    Lippold Park - West Entrance by Far Syed

    The weather was really nice, and glad the ice did not take over the part that I was sampling! Due to the rain and snow, the chloride seems to have increased, so let’s see what happens next month.

    Between this observation and the previous (January 2026) Chicago has had several snow events and a few days of icy sidewalk/road conditions. This past week has experienced a warm up, temps in the 40-50+F (4C-10C).
