7 May 2018
Port Perry Marina near Palmer Park by Don Ross
Sunny and mild night.....no rainfall in past 24 hours. About 8-10 people fishing at the end of the dock during the time I was there. Spoke with several of them about Water Rangers and the tests we were doing and gave them a card to check out the site. They were interested in the results and condition of the lake and other places where they fish and live. Caught a catfish but they wanted perch. Said the fishing hasn’t been very good and with conductivity over 500 last fall and now, this might explain some of the reasons why?

7 May 2018

3 May 2018
Centennial Park in Town of Deseronto by Heather Ross
Spitting rain a bit currently after about 4-5 mm rainfall in past 24 hours. Overcast skies and medium winds. 2 young kids were fishing along the dock catching some small perch and putting them back. Asked us what we were doing so showed them, had them watch a few of our tests and give us their opinion of the readings, and gave them a postcard so they could look it up online later.

East Bayshore Waterfront Park and Herchimer Rd Boat Launch in Belleville by Don Ross
About 3 mm rainfall in past 24 hours. Windy and partly cloudy now with choppy waves. Dock isn't installed yet where we test so did it nearby. Few ducks flying overhead. Young couple playing with their dogs retrieving sticks in the water next to me so talked with them about Water Rangers and gave them a card. He pulled up the site on his cell while we chatted & seemed quite interested in this .

22 April 2018
near Glenora, Prince Edward County by Deb Hudson
Today is a beautiful sunny and calm day. The water was running over the dam and towards the big bay (part of Lake Ontario) behind us. There was a cormorant and lots of May flies. A neighbour to the Lake on the Mountain Park came by when we were taking water samples and was very interested in what we were doing. I gave her some information including the Water Rangers website. She told me the ice was off the lake March 15, 2018.

1 April 2018
Pt. Petre Provincial Wildlife Area by Heather Ross
Just 3 MM rain overnight. Ice is off the lake on this, our first visit to Pt Petre this year.....suspect it has been off for several weeks but can’t confirm so will mark this date for ice-off. Very windy today so the waves are really coming in heavy. No sign of any wildlife around this spot or anywhere during our 1 hour walk here today....hiding out from the winds? Someone has cut back the bushes and left them piled here...also lots of the usual garbage left and dumped by idiots.

31 March 2018
Little Bluff Conservation Area by Heather Ross
No rainfall in past 24 hours. Sunny and fairly calm day. Saw a coyote or coy-wolf walking along the roadway as we walked the trails in the conservation area . Unfortunately, as always, lots of trash too, left behind by brain-dead humans. Picked up enough pop & beer cans & bottle to fill several bags. Ducks seen along the lakeshore and just tiniest bit of ice still on the beach.

28 March 2018
South Bay Cres Public Boat Launch by Don Ross
7 mm rainfall in past 24 hours. Water moving slowly along creek into the marsh as it enters South Bay on Lake Ontario. Could hear many swans & geese across the marsh on the lake. Songbirds and crows visible and heard in the trees nearby. Same fly fisherman as I met in Milford earlier was here too checking out the river for sucker activity, of which there is none yet. Spoke with him more about Water Rangers and the testing we do and directed him to the site to learn more.

East side of Hamlet of Milford K0K2P0 by Don Ross
Ice off on river where we test but still on Millpond above the dam. 7 mm rainfall over past 24 hours. Overcast and mild with little wind. River flowing strongly over the dam. Spoke with fly fisherman who was there checking to see if the suckers have begun their run yet....none. They do usually come up river this far each spring but not here yet. Picked up several beer cans and plastic bags to recycle. Single robin seen nearby.

Sunny, calm and chilly day. No rain or snow in past 24 hours. Bit of ice and snow still along the shore but river wide open. 2 swans were swimming on the river near the dock when we arrived and swam out towards the lake when we came to the dock. Flock of geese flew by and a hawk also.

West end of Hamlet of Milford at furthest west end of Millpond by Don Ross
Wet snow during past 24 hours and currently falling lightly...about 3 cm on the ground. Ice off in the test area and river feeding into the pond from the waterfalls, which have been flowing strongly for most of the past few months. Water is crystal clear now and I can see 6 dead frogs at the bottom of the pond where we do our tests.

This is first opportunity we’ve had to observe the river and it has no ice at all on it and may have been ice free for bit longer....flowing freely at our test site and all along the river that we could see.

Ice no longer on the river feeding into East Lake where we do our testing and is running clearly, although ice remains further out on the actual lake .
