    Mattawa by Graham Simmons

    Something has killed and eaten two ring billed gulls. Minimal remains. A barge has been launched and work is underway on the closest pier to Mattawa of the train bridge that crosses the Ottawa River. The piers are concrete and sit in the river. This bridge has a train crossing approximately twice a day, going to and from the Tembec mill in Temiscaming.

    Upstream of Norway Bay by Riverwatcher Ottawa

    Clear weather, maple leaves in the water, no changes to shoreline other than all but one dock brought onto shore. Flight of migrating geese. Checked rocks near the shore and saw not sign of zebra mussels.

    On arrival at the dock there were at lease 50 ducks about 100 feet from shore. Very little activity on the river, calm water.

    Upstream of Norway Bay by Riverwatcher Ottawa

    Mostly clear weather. Very hot for this time of year with little wind. Earlier in the week observed hundreds of "water bugs" in one area. No signs of pollution just some recreational boating on the river. Fewer docks than normal on the shoreline (seasonal). Lots of birds. Ornamental Lily pad-like invasive water plant-gradually spreading from central focus to east to west.

    Investigators: Jennifer Haughton, Peter Haughton, Deborah Powell Latitude: 45.52154; Longitude: -76.47308 Weather in past 24 hours: clear/partly cloudy Current Weather: clear/partly cloudy (weather has been unseasonably hot recently - this weekend the temperature is expected to break records possibly reaching 30'C) Human Activity: boating, fishing and swimming Wildlife: Appears to be the start of major Canada Geese migration (counted 500+ Canada Geese flying overhead and landing in the Ottawa River), 2 ducks (possibly mallards), Belted Kingfisher, Spotted Sandpiper, Osprey, 2 map turtles (in Haughton's Bay).
