Old Trace Park by Jennifer Sigrest

Sampling at this site is more challenging on days when the water is choppy since the placement of rocks along the shore. It’s more difficult to get close enough to the water for a sample at least a foot from the shore. Not sure if this may have contributed to the variance in coliform counts for these samples?

  • 27 October 2024

    East Spillway by LeAnn Nealey

Water very low; calm, couple of herons and egrets; low flow, one gate open

  • 27 October 2024

West Spillway Dock by Laura Luke

Birds were catching fish, dragonflies and butterflies were flying around, and people were out fishing. The water was a little lower than usual.

  • 24 October 2024

Pearl River at Carroll Loop by Theresa Thornhill

The water was too low for me to test. The stairs only go down so far so the water was beyond my reach.

    Pelahatchie Creek by Stacey Knepple

A fisherman reported seeing two chickens wandering around near the water. I saw one chicken while testing.

  • 8 October 2024

Water has brownish/Green tint, and water clarity is low. Several people observed having their lunch along both banks.

  • 8 October 2024

Rosemary Rd bridge by Johnny McGowan

Gentle current present, and local landowner reports many fish caught and alligators sighted. The water had a greenish/brown appearance and clarity is low.

    Gatesville Bridge by Johnny McGowan

Observed a healthy school of very small minnows along the bank, and evidence of recent fishing activity. The water had low clarity and was greenish/brown in color with a film floating on the surface.

Old Trace Park by Jennifer Sigrest

Beautiful day at Old Trace Park. Had a conversation with a man and his young sons at the sampling site about the purpose of the sampling being done and the mission of the Water Stewards as well as Pearl Riverkeeper. Discussed where to learn results of the water testing being done. Also discussed the upcoming Pearl River Clean Sweep, encouraging them to volunteer.
