Elbow Islands Park by Korice Moir

We got engaged at Elbow Islands Park 17 years ago! :) Took family down to the river trail today. Chose not to put Water Rangers test instruments in as warning of whirling disease in the Elbow River. Just used test strip to record pH, alkalinity, etc. Dark clouds rolling in. Storm brewing. Heavy rain later that night.

  • 1 August 2019

Humber Bay Park West by Korice Moir

Tested at Site A (Site 1) today. There were 9 divers there this morning, plus a kayaker. Lots of seagulls, but no other birds in site. Beautiful morning. Thank you to Tais and Ro for sampling to test E. coli for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper as well.

In Road to Nowhere by Lerena Ashevak

Dead Dog Lake is a small lake in a residential area. People tend to wash their cars in this lake, there's snowmobile races on top of it during the winter when it's completely frozen over. Doesn't actually have dead dogs.

  • 29 July 2019

Marie Curtis Beach, Mississauga by Korice Moir

Seagulls. Cormorants. Dog walkers. Volleyball players. Picnic/beach goers. A wind surfer. Seadoo along shoreline. Cold water despite warm air.

  • 29 July 2019

Kelso Beach, Owen Sound by Korice Moir

Cold cold water (5 degrees less!) in Owen Sound compared to Thornbury just east down the road. Not too many people swimming at this spot. Geese (swimming in formation) don’t seem to mind. What was most noticeable was the lack of beach. Very high water level have swallowed all the sand! Just a narrow patch of beach is visible. Large trees surrounded by water.

  • 28 July 2019

Boat Launch south of main entrance on east side of conservation area by Korice Moir

Mosquitoes! Enough to don bug jacket complete with protective hood. Butterflies, dragonflies, little red flying bugs (ID?). Hardly any water birds though besides a few seagulls. Warmest water temp this season! No paddling/boats allowed in this lake until after July 31st.

  • 28 July 2019

Embrace swimming event on today in Thornbury. Great day for a swim! Clear blue skies, warm clean water!

  • 26 July 2019

  • 21 July 2019

Turkey Point Beach by Korice Moir

Freezing water temp. Frozen toes and legs. Couldn’t stay in long! Busy beach though. Boaters and braves swimmers in water. Dogs, too. Also rainbow unicorn.
