Lily pads on the lake. Trees starting to change colour. Fall Festival going on at Terra Cotta conservation area today with games, treats, birds of prey talks (on owls and hawks), and even a magician. :) Also took a bus from Terra Cotta to visit badlands nearby.

Off dock, south east area of Lake by Water Rangers
Very gentle steady breeze Deciduous leaves - reds-full out / oranges-mostly out / yellows-beginning to show Conifers - approx. 1/6 of needles shed & 1/6 more turned yellow (they yearly shed about 1/3 of needles) Water very clear as usual Water level lowest I've seen in 18 years. Spring water level was highest in my 18 years according to some damage on shore line. I have heard that spring levels broke record hi of 2017. No other abnormalities observed

Deep spot by Kim Emde
Location of observation is at south edge of the pond, because I was not able to access the pond with a canoe. The water level is very low, and a ridge of grasses exists between the marshy shore and the main pond. I walked along the edge grasses until I got to an open area. There are weeds/algae growing and floating at the surface. The water seems clear, but can't get a Secchi reading due to the weeds. There is a network of beaver water trails and landing pads throughout the grassy area (pond grass that grows in tall and in tufts with water between).

Charles Daley Beach by Korice Moir
There is sand at this beach! Not much of it was visible earlier this summer. Water level much lower than month and a half ago (see August 8 photos). Lots of erosion and debris along bank. Warning sign still up. No birds. Few people in the park. Algae in pond south west of this beach.

Port Dalhousie by Korice Moir
After a day of workshop presentations, no better way to enjoy the evening than coming to this gorgeous beach in Port Dalhousie/St. Catharine's. Lake Ontario's water level is considerably down at this location since last visit in early August. The volleyball nets are out of the water now, and the beach has been combed of the debris that had washed up on the shore (compared to early August). The famous St. Catharine's carousel (only costs 10 cents - literally!) is now closed for the season. See same day post under "Testers" for phosphates result using machine learning test strip.

Under the Gardiner by Korice Moir
Concrete. Greenery on the edges. Cars racing above on the bridges (Gardiner, railway, etc.). Tent under most southern one (ramp off the Gardiner heading east). Entered ravine on south side of that ramp. Low flow. High vegetation in the bush this time of year, or it has grown quite a bit from last year. Some leaves are starting to change. We spotted a mammal. Can you tell me what it is? North of the bridges, the City of Toronto and/or Toronto and Region Conservation have created a formal gravel trail where there used to be a soft earth path. It is quite wide. Some trees have been planted along the path. Understand they will one day connect this to make a continuous path south to Lake Shore Boulevard West. Heading that way, we managed to stop at the farmers' market at mouth of Mimico Creek (Humber Bay Park West parking lot) on way home. Lots of love to those growing and sharing their harvest.

Etienne Brule Park in Toronto by Korice Moir
Two egrets in one spot. Hardly see two together here in the city. Seagulls flying about, landing on the rocks in the water. Someone walking along the trail in the park stopped to chat and said they saw a salmon trying to get upstream, but I didn't see one. It's almost that time of year when you can spot them in the Humber River. I was in the area because local Indigenous artist Phillip (Phil) Cote provided a guided tour of six of ten Indigenous murals. They are located on the large pillars under the subway track bridge southwest of Etienne Brule Park. From the parking lot, head west over the bridge, and then south along the west bank of the river to see them. They're amazing, and so too are the explanations behind their meaning. Most feature water and fish. Mouth of creek just north of boat launch by Korice Moir
Ducks. Two swans. Cormorants on a log in the distance. Floating vegetation at boat launch. Water level down quite a bit compared to height of summer, but still not low. Cannot see bottom of creek (muddy water).
