8 April 2025
Dacey Rd at St. Marys River by Community Volunteers
The site is safe to access but the water is contaminanted with god knows what. This stormwater drainage could be contaminated and cause rashes please always use gloves. If the water gets on your skin- wash and sanitize in case of Ecoli. Storm water is also a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. Odour: Decomposing/Rotting. There was 147 pieces of garbage that were cleaned up- 6 were cans from beer. 5 tim hortion cups and the rest of the pieces were broken off pieces of plastics from a larger unknown source. There should be a catcher here since this waste and pollution go directly into the freshwater sources we are trying to protect and serve.

6 April 2025
Root River Wishart Park by Community Volunteers
The water is high and the sample site can only be accessed from the snow bank- you must move upstream to access the site safely and move downwards. Park/Recreation is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. Water Colour: Orange.

6 April 2025
Cold Water Creek at Old Garden River Road by Community Volunteers
The site is safe, be careful when approaching as the snow banks on left bank are over 12 metre snow pack and since the south sun does not hit the banks- there is a dangerous escarpment on left bank- approach site on the right bank, as it is safer. There was no birds present but there was evidence of the beaver awake or in the area that brought a tree to the front of the mouth of the two culverts. There is algae present upstream from the site which resembles chladophoria, and green and blue algae. The shapes are unique and were present all winter long, healthy green and growing. previoulsy sampled as a urban area but community members identified wrong this site is sampled and is in the vicsinity of rural disharge and residential.

6 April 2025
Crystal Creek Case Rd by Community Volunteers
The site is dangerous to approach. You must approach the stop from the left bank and be careful on the rocks. This site is not safe to access for all volunteers right now. Ice on the water surface. There were no wildlife present. There were pine siskins, and chickadees present. The water level was high on both sides of the culvert- the south side of culvert was flowing over the riprap dam, which is good. There is a large mound of sand acquiring on left bank. The snowbank on the road sides are 1 meter high with pack. The tree has fallen in the middle of the creek, which could pose future problems for catching debris and possibility changing the course of the creek.

5 April 2025
West Davignon Brookfield Ave by Community Volunteers
The monitoring location is accessible, but the entire area is covered in snow, so be careful. Monitor from the left bank, upstream from a culvert. Left bank has a steep slope covered in snow, but some patches of ground and vegetation are visible, making a safe place to monitor. There is a construction going near the upstream closer to the school. The water level is higher than usual. Access location from Brookfield Ave @ Second Line W in winter.

Gros Cap - Lake Superior by Community Volunteers

Little Carp River Carpin Beach Rd by Community Volunteers
The river is wide open and the water level is high, but the access to the river is not safe. Therefore did not monitor this location. Foam is visible and is coming from roadside ditches. Water looks brown coloured at upstream before it meets with the water from the roadside ditch, but it looks green after it meets with the roadside ditch water at down stream.

Upper Carp River at Creek Rd/Third Line W by Community Volunteers
Can't access the water body. Nearby area is completely covered in snow and it is melting. It is not safe to go closer. Water is visible at downstream, but area is restricted by the fence.

East Davignon Creek Allens Side (N of 2nd Ln W) by Community Volunteers
Access to the location could be dangerous, wear snow boots to access the location. Snow hasn't completely melted yet. Big boulders under the now could be a hazard. Right side of the bank is still completely covered in snow. Do not access from the right bank of the creek. Left bank is not covered in snow, but the entrance from the left side is still covered in snow. Lots of trees are fallen on the bank as well as into the creek. Algae is observed, but it is very low as compared to the same time from last year. Algae is not visible from the surface, but it is visible in underwater pictures. The culvert under the bridge has two passages to allow the water to flow, but left one is blocked with uneven ground surface and with lots of natural debris.

The pond is completely frozen. Can't monitor water quality.

Bellevue Park Topsail Island by Community Volunteers
To enter the site, walk through the snow-covered slope surrounded by bare trees. The slope can be slippery as it is covered in snow and it is melting. Do not walk on the snow-covered edges, because the water level is low and icy sheet can break and you can fall in to the river. Wear cloths according to the weather. People were walking their dogs in the park. Mallards were observed in the river closer to the monitoring location. Ice on the surface. Park/Recreation is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. The river was flowing slow and calm under natural conditions, but the passage of large ships caused noticeable fluctuation in the water level, creating waves and temporary turbulence.

Drake St. Park by Community Volunteers
Path was safe and bank was stable to gather samples from. Park/Recreation is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. "- There was squirrel tracks along the bank - 3 ducks were spotted interacting with the water - 2 CAGO (Canada Geese) flew over the site - Secchi disk was almost(!) not visible on the bottom, which is different from the last couple tests were completed, by myself, at the site. Normally the disk is easily visible.

Dacey Rd at St. Marys River by Community Volunteers
The site is safe, it is slippery on the snow and on wet rocks. Storm Water is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. Odour: Decomposing. The site was much higher then prior. The garbage in the water has been washed away. There was new scum in the flood channel. The algae is becoming more vibrant and alive. The site receives sun most of the day. The rocks are orange and red from what looks like rust.
-
29 March 2025
Root River Wishart Park by Community Volunteers
The site is unsafe to access unless you are wearing rubber boots. The banks have been swept away and the water is up against the left and right bank. The water is not deep so it can be sampled if it can be reached safely with boots. Ice on the water surface. Park/Recreation is a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. The site was different from past weeks monitoring- water has moved the banks. No landslides yet. The water was cloudy but there was a rainfall event 24 hrs prior. Physical characteristics could not be accomplished due to safety concerns. No birds yet. No sign of beaver. The tee from the top of the river has moved down stream and stuck on another tree. The snow pack is .64 metres.

29 March 2025
Cold Water Creek at Old Garden River Road by Community Volunteers
The banks of snow on the edges are about to fall, it=f the weather warns be sure to use right bank to access water. This is because the sun hits right bank and you can see solid ground. The algae is incredible. It is growing in strange patterns and in perfect circles. I will investigate the algae under the microscope to identify species. The area the algae is growing looks like there is a geological formation and a stump decomposing, potentially feeding the algae. There were tracks that look like a muskrat coming out of the water on left bank. The snow is pack so very easily and safe to move on.

27 March 2025
Root River Hwy 17E by Community Volunteers
The left and right banks are ice-covered for a 1-meter into the water body. Sampling can only be accomplished with a long grab pole. The snow pack is approximately still 3 feet, as it gets softer, it is much easier to fall through. Watch your ankles. Ice on the water surface. Both banks were covered in snow, and observed beaver activities. Water temperature was -1, but observation form is not allowing numbers below 0, so entered 0 degree Celsius.
