Water calm. The previous day there were scattered storms in the atea and the site may have received rain. There did not appear to have been rain at the site on the sampling day. Strong smell of something dead near sampling site, but nothing observed. Unsure if it was in the water or on the ground nearby.

    East Spillway by LeAnn Nealey

River very low; 1 gate open; herons and egrets on bars downriver and at dam; a few fishermen. Watery murky; algae slime covering underwater rocks. R-cards worked-see photo.

West Spillway Dock by Laura Luke

It was hot and sunny with occasional cloud cover and a slight breeze. People were out fishing and boating. I saw butterflies, wasps, and dragonflies. There were some birds fishing, and while I was gathering my samples, what appeared to be a Spotted Gar kept swimming up to me to see what I was doing. There were also some little fish swimming near the edge of the water, but I wasn’t sure of what they were. The water was a bit lower than normal and there were dead fish along the edge of the water. It is unclear if they were discarded or washed up. The water did not smell bad, however the air did have a fishy smell, possibly due to the dead fish. There was some litter, but not a lot.

    Madison Landing by Jennifer Sigrest

Water seemed to have more sediment and debris in it than normal, perhaps due to recent rains. Sailing club members in the water and launching near sampling site, so this is a good location to test for water safety.
