    Took water sample from pier rather than wading out from shore. That may be why the results are clearer than normal. Geese on shore. People on pier.

    West Spillway Dock by Laura Luke

    It was a beautiful, sunny day with a bit of a breeze. People were fishing and there were a lot of birds. Tiny fish were swimming around while I was testing, and there were a bunch of butterflies and wasps flitting around the edge of the water. The butterflies didn’t hold still long enough to take pictures, however the wasps were calm enough to get close. The water was lower than normal, and there was a mild fishy smell, but nothing too strong.

    River very low; 1 gate open good flow; a few egrets in trees; some herons on deadfall and bars; beautiful cooler morning; osprey on dead tree on West Bank

    Coal Bluff Park by Stacey Knepple

    Pearl River Valley Water District workers were on site with multiple trucks and heavy machinery. There was what appeared to be sludge (possible run-off/dumping from equipment?) in the water by the dock. There was a sign indicating that the boat ramp was closed - presumably for safety reasons related to construction, as there was rebar sticking out of the concrete at ground level by the dock.

    This location was so muddy along the water's edge that it was like sinking in quick sand. (Thankfully, I was able to brace my foot on a log to remove my stuck boot.) I covered bacterial testing at Leake County Water Park and Coal Bluff Park for Billy Mitchell this week.

    Headwater flow from from locally heavy rain the day before. Water turbid. Other coliform were so abundant could only be estimated as 250/ml.
