Black River outflow to Lake Ontario by Deb Hudson
Since the last water sample was taken at the Black River Bridge over 140 mm of rain fell in this area. Today was sunny but there was rain within the last 24 hours. There was a lot of garbage at the edge of the river which I picked up and placed in a garbage can. The Secchi Depth was taken from the bridge instead of from the edge of the river bank. The water was over the top of the gabion baskets at the site where we take the water samples.

East side of Hamlet of Milford K0K2P0 by Don Ross
Since May 1st we have had approx 135 mm of rainfall in Milford and this has been causing some localized flooding across PEC, especially along the shores of Lake Ontario. Many farm fields are water laden. Water levels all high in all locales. Rapidly moving water flows over the nearby dam and in area of testing in river. Light drizzle, cloudy and calm winds today. Only wildlife observed was a swan on the milpond beyond bridge. Pop cans and plastic bottles discarded along rivers edge picked up to recycle. Suprised to see any of the foamy matter today with such strong flows, but there was one patch of it caught up in the branches near our test area.

Since May 1st we have had approx 135 mm of rainfall in Milford and this has been causing some localized flooding across PEC, especially along the shores of Lake Ontario. Many farm fields are water laden. Water levels all high in all locales. Nearby waterfalls are roaring and strong current at our test site. Today just light misty rain, cloudy and calm winds. Some ducks and Canada Geese on pond and seagull and red winged blackbirds overhead. No pond scum along waters edge as there was at previous testing but just some frothy material floating under the bridge from the rapids further upstream.

Pt. Petre Provincial Wildlife Area by Don Ross
Cloudy and moderately windy day. Some cormorants and seagulls in the air and many very tiny bugs floating in the water and in the air. Lake level higher than usual....this shoreline will increase as the water recedes during summer and as the St Lawrence seaway locks take their affect on levels.

Cherry Valley Lions Memorial Park Boat Launch Dock by Don Ross
Sunny and calm early evening. Had been about 3 MM rain overnight. Saw a hawk and many red - winged blackbirds and heard plenty of frogs, toads and crickets coming from the marshes. No fish in sight but a boat was leaving the launch area as we arrived and we chatted with the couple about what we were doing. Saw pop cans, beer bottle and some plastic garbage which we picked up to recycle properly.

Small stream that flows across farm fields under culvert on County Road 10 just north of Royal St by Don Ross
We won't be testing this location as it often has no water flow. But given the amount of garbage disposed alongside the stream we wanted to make a note of this issue as we cleaned up along the roadways during our Trash Bash for Earth Day here in our area.

The groundwater , rainfall and runnoff that feeds this river that flows over the waterfalls into the Millpond then over the damn into the Black River in Milford then out into Lake Ontario seems to originate from all higher points of land between Picton and here.

Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park Site #300 by Water_marked Water_marked
While paddling on Wolf Lake travelling south to Crab Lake there were encounters with Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, and Loon. At the camp site a snapping turtle was present along with an unknown water snake that was brown with yellow banding.
