28 July 2024
Root River Branch Fourth Line E by Community Volunteers
This visit was a special visit to determine if fish were present and trapped. 4 separate fish were seen. One was caught and resembles a salmon - possibly chinook or coho. The culvert does not allow for passage further up stream. The fish was approx. 7.8cm in length. To note the water was turned up a reasonable amount before sampling. If conductivity is higher than previously, the iron turn-up could account for this. Take the path down to the site. Wear a vizy vest so visible to neighbours. the path is steep and watch for slippery rocks and grasses. There is an abundance of iron seeping from the ground, the ground is saturated so can easily sink. Wear long boots and pants.

-
24 July 2024
Crystal Creek Case Rd by Community Volunteers
There is no ball to measure discharge, the bank's full width will not change for this site because of the riprap barrier. The other site of the culvert is a sand-dominant substrate, possibly from the road sand they use in the winter. Does not appear to have a natural substrate. Never seen fish here. The culvert is new but fast-flowing. Fish may not be able to pass these areas. The water was higher than my last visit. No beaver dam present any longer or sign of beaver. The vegetation is so overgrown on the walk to the creek. It’s a floral wonderland. The overflow on the left bank had stagnant water in it. The riparian barrier on the right bank was almost submerged, showing the water level.

-
24 July 2024
Root River Old Garden River by Community Volunteers
The water was very brown, cloudy and foamy. Could not see the bottom all across, and the cup of water was actually very brown. The water was not brown because of the substrate. It was turned over as well. Maybe Iron? Slippery steep wall down to the creek. Be careful when pulling into the area beside the bridge. Be careful on the blind cover when pulling out. No signs of fishing since the spring.
