Outflow from GSTW into Wey Natural River: Trunley Heath Road by Trevor Murrells

The river is flooding the water meadow it flows through. The river level is above the Godalming Sewerage Treatment Works (GSTW) outflow. Water was emerging from the sides of the manhole cover directly above the outflow. The sample was taken from this emerging water (at this test location we aim to take the sample directly from the outflow pipe, rather than the river, where possible or as close to the pipe if it is submerged). Results should be similar to the pool on the reserve that has reappeared.

Small pool on UWNR near to GSTW outflow, east side of Trunley Health Road by Trevor Murrells

The pool has recently reappeared following persistent rainfall. The river level is now above the GSTW outflow so this may cause the water coming from GSTW to backup. Today water was coming out of the manhole that sits directly above the outflow on the other side of the road. The two issues could be connected.

Outflow from GSTW into Wey Natural River: Trunley Heath Road by Trevor Murrells

There were some foam/bubbles forming at the outflow. There was a washing machine smell. The river level was between average and low, certainly for this of the year when the outflow is often submerged. I saw two men in canoes a few weeks ago paddling past the outflow

  • 28 November 2025

Outlet into Pond Wood by Trevor Murrells

Pond Wood looks drier than last month. No water is visible from the test location. No water was flowing from the two pipes and the pool, that feeds the pond, has gone dry. This maybe because the amount of water entering the Dry Lagoon has been restricted to allow for the cutting back of part of the reed bed.
