East Lagoon - South Deck by Burke Mountain Naturalists
Fair amount of waterfowl observed on East Lagoon, including a Kingfisher, Mallards, American Widgeons, Coots, Gadwalls, Northern Shovelers, and Hooded Mergansers, as well as songbirds such as Black-capped chickadees and juncos. Note: minor amounts of salt noted on observation platform deck to reduce slippage issues.

Depth appears to be similar to depth in August/23 (photo observations). Two turtles observed sunning themselves on distant log....no turtles observed near shore; the turtles were too far away to identify

Wildlife observations at or near sampling site included: Canada goose (22); mallards (11), America wigeons (6), gadwalls (4), black-capped chickadees (3), Anna's hummingbird (1), white-crowned sparrows (6), Spotted towhee (2).

Water level is lower than last month (about 7 cm lower) Observed 1 painted turtle; 2 red eared slider turtles; Coastal Partners in Conservation emailed 5 bears have been observed swimming at Lost Lake regularly; 1 bear was observed swimming with a turtle in its jaws 1 week ago; reported to us by a park user and confirmed with a photograph More surface vegetation observed than last month; 3 mallards and 1 Great Blue Heron observed

The west creek area is dry; still some water coming in from the east. More natural debris on the water surface; trees appear stressed and are dropping leaves.
