    Salt Creek Park Forest Preserve by Tom Kubica

    Took a resample today as recommended to do occasionally. Same reading. Calling it a "6" on both test strips. Took a photo of the Test site. Wildlife: 2 squirrels, deer tracks but no deer sited. 2 Blue jays, 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker, 48 Canadian geese(9 in the Creek, the rest in fly bys overhead), 4 Mourning Doves.

    Water level and flow up considerably. A breeding pair of mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) spotted swimming in the creek.

    In the prior three weeks the city had applied a ton of salt due the snowfall we received. The snow is mostly melted now and most of the salt has washed off the roads due to sustained rains.

    Several parking lots in the immediate area have drains that empty into the creek so I expected a high count. During the summer I have not seen many animals in this creek, now I know one possible explanation.

    Conductivity meter reached as high as 1994 and then registered "----". Chloride strips all read 8.0, off the provided chart. As such, chloride ppm number reported for a maximum listed value of 7.8 (620 ppm). Extrapolated actual chloride level ~636 ppm.
