Black River marsh outlet from stream by Don Ross
Overcast and calm at the moment. Have had extensive rain fall over past 2 weeks ( 118.6 MM total from Apr 26th to May 14th ) Marsh flooded more than usual and much more than when first tested this spring. White swan pair flew in while I tested, Canada Geese, ducks and red-winged blackbirds around. Fairly good current of water flowing under the culvert from other side to where we test on the east side of the roadway.

Kan Centre Pond by Don Ross
Sunny & mild winds with no rainfall in past 24 hrs. Did testing with the KAN Centre children for enrichment day. Found frog eggs, dragonfly nymph, tad poles, water skitters, and many birds around.

Raining lightly at present time and overcast, calm winds. River flowing strongly and overflow from recent flooding to where the edge is now. Crows and other birds in the area.

Sunny & calm day, although water in river flowing very rapidly and higher up along shoreline due to spring flooding event. Dock not installed yet so tested along shore. Duck in the water and pigeons on the covered bridge. No rainfall in past 24 hrs.

Lots of rain over past 24 hrs. Overcast & calm. Geese, blackbirds, chickadees, swallows, frogs heard in the rushes. Canoeists paddling by and I gave some information about Water Rangers to a young birdwatcher as I was leaving.

- Concerns
- Take sample below the first 10cm of the water. Rinse cup 3 times before taking your sample. Phosphate teststrips: Follow instructions on package. These should be used when you suspect rates above 0.01ppm (100ppb). - Dip strip in the sample - Wait 45 seconds - Compare results with colour scale - Record results - Take a photo of the strip on the reference card. Other test strips: - Dip strip in sample for 2 seconds - Compare results right away - Hold strip vertically and compare values for Alkalinity, pH and Hardness - Record results - Take a photo of the strip on the reference card For more information on the protocols of this program, visit https://waterrangers.ca/research
