11 July 2019
Pt. Petre Provincial Wildlife Area by Don Ross
Overcast and calm winds. Has been very dry for a long time....rain needed badly. Lake levels still high along shoreline but depth no different. Songbirds and insects around but no seabirds at all this time. Collected as much garbage to dispose of and cans to recycle as we could fit into a bag we had with us.

First Bridge on County Rd 28 by Don Ross
No rain fall in past 24 hours. Slightly overcast and calm today. Road has been reopened for past few weeks after spring flooding had closed it earlier in year to car traffic. Heron far off in the marsh, seagulls overhead, songbirds around. Water bugs and lots of bullrushes...some floating like little islands in the gentle current until they bumped up against bridge & stopped.

9 July 2019
Cherry Valley Lions Memorial Park Boat Launch Dock by Don Ross
Sunny, muggy and calm day. Schools of minnows visible in the water. Dragonflies around and could hear many frogs, toads and crickets in the rushes. Few red winged blackbirds visible and other birds only heard. Dock is still mostly submerged from high water levels so my readings couldn't be taken at usual spot near end of dock so this depth reading would be somewhat less than where it is taken normally.

West end of Hamlet of Milford at furthest west end of Millpond by Don Ross
Sunny, muggy and calm day. Hawk flying overhead and swan with 2 singlets had been seen on the Millpond an hour before on our walk. Some dragonflies and horseflies around. Birds could be heard but not see. A very heavy and extensive blanket of green slime and algae is coating much of the pond now on both sides of the bridge. Just a week ago this was nowhere near this bad.

8 July 2019
East side of Hamlet of Milford K0K2P0 by Don Ross
Sunny and calm muggy day. Barely any rainfall over past few weeks and this is shown by how low the river is and how little water is trickling over the dam from millpond now. Some minnows can be seen in the water, mosquitoes , black flies and water bugs and some birds heard but not seen.

No rain in past 24 hours. Sunny and medium winds with small bit of chop on the river. No wildlife seen or heard. Sidewalk under water so blocked off. Picked up some cans, plastic bottles and other trash and out into the garbage can nearby & recyclables brought home to our blue box.
- Concerns
- Take sample below the first 10cm of the water. Rinse cup 3 times before taking your sample. Phosphate teststrips: Follow instructions on package. These should be used when you suspect rates above 0.01ppm (100ppb). - Dip strip in the sample - Wait 45 seconds - Compare results with colour scale - Record results - Take a photo of the strip on the reference card. Other test strips: - Dip strip in sample for 2 seconds - Compare results right away - Hold strip vertically and compare values for Alkalinity, pH and Hardness - Record results - Take a photo of the strip on the reference card For more information on the protocols of this program, visit https://waterrangers.ca/research
