Kyd Brook S.W.O upstream by Kirsty Blackman
So I thought that I would test my tap water today, primarily to see what the phosphate levels were as there are so many variables that affect the level. Mt tap water was ammonia 0.04, Phosphate >2.5 and flashing, I only have a low range Hanna checker. For comparison this site was ammonia 0.1 Phosphate 0.62. I was relieved that the ammonia of the tap water was lower than here. Factors that affect the ammonia and phosphate here are we are in a woodland, lots of rotting/natural debris plus excess water from ghe woodland drains intk the brook, then there is a CSO plus 2 x SWOs upstream from this location. Currently there is also a fallen tree blocking the brook downstream from here which is causing it to dam and the water levels to be higher than normal, please see photos. This has bee here a while now and has visible signs of stagnation on top of the water, it has been reported so hopefully this will be moved soon and everything can get back to normal.

So I thought that I would test my tap water today, primarily to see what the phosphate levels were as there are so many variables that affect the level. My tap water was ammonia 0.04, Phosphate >2.5 and flashing, I only have a low range Hanna checker. For comparison this site was ammonia 0.25 Phosphate 0.55. I was relieved that the ammonia of the tap water was lower than here. Factors that affect the ammonia and phosphate here are we are in a woodland, lots of rotting/natural debris plus excess water from the woodland drains into the brook, then there is a CSO plus 2 x SWOs upstream from this location, and this SWO. There is scum on top of the water coming from the SWO, only time will tell if this is still a misconnection or something has been emptied down the road drain, there is lots of building works going on.

For comparison this site was ammonia 0.05 Phosphate 0.32. I was relieved that the ammonia of the tap water was lower than here. Factors that affect the ammonia and phosphate here are we are in a woodland, lots of rotting/natural debris plus excess water from the woodland drains into the brook, then there is a numerous SWOs upstream from this location. Currently there is a build up of debris blocking the brook downstream from here which is causing it to dam, please see photos.

Kyd Brook C.S.O by Kirsty Blackman
So I thought that I would test my tap water today, primarily to see what the phosphate levels were as there are so many variables that affect the level. My tap water was ammonia 0.04, Phosphate >2.5 and flashing, I only have a low range Hanna checker. For comparison this site was ammonia 0 Phosphate 0.77. I was relieved that the ammonia of the tap water was lower than here. Factors that affect the ammonia and phosphate here are we are in a woodland, lots of rotting/natural debris plus excess water from the woodland drains into the brook. Plus building works and pollution from the rainwater drains. The water levels were low as usual and there was a lot of silt on the stones. The EDM shows that the CSO just a little upstream ftom here last discharged into Kyd Brook. 15/1/26 14:00hrs - 16/1/26 03:45hrs = 13hrs 45mins

9 January 2026
Kyd Brook Hawkswood Estate by Kirsty Blackman
There has been heavy rain in the last 24 hrs which has washed the silt away from the bottom of the brook. The water is fairly high and there is quiet a strong current. I havent looked in a while and you can only see the most recent discharge from the C.S.O quiet a way upstream from this site, but the EDM shows that the last discharge was 9/1/26 from 9:30 - 11:45 am = 2hrs 15 mins This site is also a riverfly monitoring site, todays results are as follows Gammaru x 15 RMI score = 2 + leeches x 5

The water levels are really low at the moment.

The edm shows that the C.S.O last went off 18/12/25 12:15 - 23:00 = 10 hrs 45 mins

Kyd Brook S.W.O upstream by Kirsty Blackman
There is a tree that has fallen into Kyd brook a little further downstream from this point, this has caused a dam as now vegetation hs become trapped and the water levels are now a lot higher than normal, please see photos.

Kyd Brook S.W.O downstream by Kirsty Blackman
There is a tree that has fallen into the brook a little further downstream from this point, now vegetation has also become trapped and it's formed a dam which means that the water is artificially high now, please see photos. Today there was a little bit of foam on the surface of the water and there was discharge from the S.W.O.

Mill Vale Outfall by Jeff Royce
Thames Water installed temporary boom around outlet in response to earlier heavy foam discharge. Remains in place while foam now appears absent.
