Art's House at Daisy by John Coates

First Day of summer, Low Flow '5in30' sampling. Nice to see frisky 2-3" fry (coho/cutthroat) 'attacking' snowberries dropped into cool pool.

    Columbine Willow by John Coates

First day of Summer 'Low Flow' segment of 5 in 30 Sampling. What use to be a small, shallow riffle is now willow limb jam and canary grass, 3" shallow 'pool' !

  • 20 July 2022

Blenkinsop Creek: Above Swan Lake by John Coates

stickleback prevail in this slow moving section!

  • 20 July 2022

    Swan Lake by John Coates

typical heavy lake weed on entire shoreline. American Bullfrog showing itself amongst heavy duckweed.

  • 20 July 2022

    Allotment Gardens by John Coates

Water is typically low and slow moving. At the walking bridge over the Creek (while taking D.O. reading) a miniature wave rolled UP stream from under the bridge! *** Silently and sleek TWO RIVER OTTER swam (without disturbing life or sediment) up and out of sight toward Swan Lake. These were the same pair that were having a feed and healthy splash down at Bob's Bridge , 1 1/2 hr earlier !! There should be 'invasive' American Bullfrogs available for lunch/dinner in the Lake!

  • 20 July 2022

Swan Creek: Carey Road and McKenzie Ave by John Coates

added bonus sighting of 3 hawk family (sharp-shinned or peregrine??) just above the creek in fir tree

McKenzie Underpass Forest/Columbine Riffle by John Coates

  • 20 July 2022

    Bob's Bridge by John Coates

Luck in timing of this observation .... Water disturbed by thrashing Otter .... definitely feeding on something in the waterway above the riffle! Rare to see the creek muddy like this ... now we know about this temporary sedimentation.

  • 21 June 2022

  • 21 June 2022

Blenkinsop Creek: Above Swan Lake by John Coates

muddy shore shows raccoon footprints = crayfish feed or washing! > school of stickleback indicate slow water flow caused by stick-jam created by aging willow & perhaps helped by beaver! ++ this site was once a 'riffle zone' with higher dissolved oxygen etc.

  • 21 June 2022

    Bob's Bridge by John Coates

In pool below riffle = tossed in rolled up yellow 'buttercup balls' & Observed 5-6 frisky fry (coho/cutthroat?) rise to nibble them!
