  Chickadees eating seeds on bank. Brush cutting in road allowance, woodchips floating in the water.

  Perch Creek Headwaters by Meagan Coughlin

  Caddisfly larva spotted, algae coating rocks. The telephone pole near the site has been replaced. Vegetation mowed down, assuming this to be part of the pole replacement process, riparian buffer left intact.

  Several water striders. Purple asters, nightshade, goldenrod on bank. Mosquito population still active.

  Unseasonably cool, cloudy. Rain in past 24 hours.

  Unseasonably cool, light rain previous day. Milkweed pods are opening. Nuthatch heard calling. Rabbit scat on bank.

  Bear Creek by Couchiching Conservancy

  Heavy rainfall and storms the previous day. One snail and many water striders sighted. Goldenrod on stream bank. Many sulphur butterflies.

  Heavy rain in the past 48 hours. Damselflies, great spangled fritillary, monarch, cabbage white and clouded sulphur butterflies all sighted. Milkweed, pincherries and thistle growing on stream bank. Crow and goldfinches heard calling.

  Empty dragonfly nymph husk on bridge, many water striders, catbird calling. Goldenrod, red ossier dogwood, hog peanut, nightshade all observed at site.

  McGee Creek at Centennial Park Road by Meagan Coughlin

  Testing was carried out with a LaMotte Environmental Educator kit. Emerald Shiners and Blacknose Dace were sighted swimming near the test site. A pair of Northern Rough-winged Swallows were seen nesting under the bridge and carrying food to their hatchlings during testing. Several green frogs were heard calling along the bank during testing as well.

  Sculpin sighted, many water striders and water boatmen, one water penny beetle. Lots of algae. Goldfinches, turkey vulture, veery and ovenbird heard.

  Minnow fry and larger minnows both sighted, water striders sighted, one green frog. A few ebony jewelwings and other damselflies darting around. Milkweed in bloom, several flower crab spiders seen hunting on it.

  Testing carried out using a LaMotte Environmental Educator field kit. Several Emerald Shiners were seen swimming near the site. A Great Blue Heron was also seen flying overhead during testing.
