    Rocky Saugeen off Johnston's Side Road by Wesley Bates

    The Rocky Saugeen is a stream at this point very near it's headwaters. 4 metres across. marshy with dense willow and grasses. Song birds - Red Wing Black Birds. River bottom mucky near shore some gravel patches in main current. Note river depth is 35 cm.

    Normal flow conditions for this stream. Within wetted area. Some sign downstream of recent overtopping of banks. Clear water with some organic debris moving downstream suspended in water column and along sediment interphase. Some sediment exposed as water level has recently receded after freshet. Ruby crowned kinglet and wild leaks observed on path into sampling location.

    Clear colourless water. Minor amounts of organic debris floating downstream. Relatively stable water level and flow since previous visits despite summer low-water conditions. Likely spring fed/groundwater seeps.

Data was collected as part of a study that Water Rangers ran. We were attempting to develop a machine learning tool to read teststrips.
