Location description
A farm pond (stock tank in Texas) built in the late 1800’s. To my knowledge, it has “gone dry” only once during a severe drought in the mid-two thousands. It overflows once every three to 10 years. At such times, it becomes a three to five acre wetland for a couple years. I have a well that allows me to keep the minimum level at one and one half acres. There are typically alligators present, as well are Feral Hogs, and Whitetail Deer. Bird species of note are Green Jay, Audubon Oriole, Belted Kingfisher, Great Kiskadee, Anhinga, Green Heron, Vermillion Flycatcher, and Common Pauraque.
