How to test for salinity
Salinity is measured using a salinity meter placed in water. Water temperature influences salinity, so remember to record that too!
- Turn on using the top button.
- Use your sample cup (and reacher stick) to take a sample 15 cm + below the surface.
- Immediately put your salinity meter into the water sample. Leave it there until temperature and salinity remain steady.
- Read values. Top: salinity in ppt (parts per thousand). If there is a decimal, it is ppm (parts per million). Bottom: temperature in Celsius (°C).
- Turn off the device to preserve battery life using the top button.
