Safe beach access to sample site. Some seagulls noted down shoreline. Grasses growing on beach near storm drain outlet. A few pieces of plastic litter found on beach.

Lagoon output off Peachy Street by Huron North Community Volunteers
Approach to sample site is clear. Watch for debris washed up at shoreline. Algae on rocks can be slippery. Immediate pollution source from lagoon outfall. Someone left a baggie of dog poop at trail entrance.

Water Treatment Facility at Barbara St. by Community Volunteers
Observed dead cray fish and sea weed on shoreline. Brown algae attached to rocks. Family of ducks and lots of birds singing.

Basswood Lake by Huron North Community Volunteers
This sample was taken within 48 hours fo a significant rainfall event. (10mm or more per day). Some ducks were observed along with some bass fry in the water.

Safe beach approach. Recreation area potential for pollution. Storm discharge upstream of sampling location. Onshore breeze creating some suspended sediments at shoreline. No birds observed at time of sampling. Number of people swimming and walking on beach.

Safe approach to shoreline. Algae growth at water edge makes for slippery conditions. Laggon outfall a potential pollution source. pH reading beyond scale of colour strip. Much more algae growth noted.

Beach access safe to approach. River mouth potential pollution source. Breezy onshore wind. Waves at 12" plus. Some suspended sediments due to wave action at shoreline. Still a number of dead trees grounded on sandbar.

Beach access. Safe approach. Storm water discharge upstream of sample location. No water birds present at time of sampling. Some people observed swimming/wading. One person asked about the water sampling and if it was safe to swim there.

Lagoon output off Peachy Street by Community Volunteers
Approach is safe. Caution for ticks. Immediate pollution source as Lagoon Outfall. Brown Algae observed at the location which is attached to the rocks. Colour on the Teststrip for pH is darker than 8.4, however, 8.4 is the highest number in the Teststrip, therefore, 8.4 is entered as a value. Much more algae growth. The water is cloudy and greenish. No water birds or fish noted. Aquatic plants flourishing, cattails over 5’ high. pH levels remain above Teststrip capacity to measure. Should have electronic test equipment for accurate data.

Water Treatment Facility at Barbara St. by Community Volunteers
No litter, song sparrow, nuthatch, crows 🐦⬛ Not sure about discharge and algae. Rocks have some slime, and there is a ditch that doesn’t flow presently but could possibly if raining. Would like some clarification as to the discharge question because we are at the water plant.

The monitoring location is as same as the last excursion. Lagoon outfall is also a pollution source in the immediate surroundings. Considerable algae growth since last visit. Colour on the Teststrip for pH appears darker than 8.4, however, 8.4 is the highest number on the Teststrip so 8.4 is mentioned in the observation.
