Grand Marais Ditch by Catherine Owen

The water had receded about 2 foot from shore. Was very shallow, maybe 2 feet in the middle. I observed a blue heron standing in the water.

Grand Marais Ditch by Catherine Owen

Water was very low. It had receeded about two feet from regular water line, exposing the creek bottom. It is about a foot of water where I am testing - maybe two foot in middle. I saw a great blue heron standing a bit down from me waiting for a fish.

Beaver Pond Site 5 Westminster Ponds ESA by Jennifer Trampleasure H3-ELP Environmental Leaders Project TVDSB

I was fortunate enough to see the Beaver today! I was not quick enough with my phone, but I watched the typical V wake they leave behind and sure enough, there was the beaver. Also saw a Blue Heron and many dragon flies. There seems to be quick a slick of algae and some oil on the edge by he actual beaver dam there. Today I saw a beaver swim away from this sight and off into some bull rushes. The geese and ducks who have used the roof of the beaver lodge as their own nest over the summer - seem to have left. Just some barn swallows, and red winged blackbirds flying about today.

Buffer West Marsh Boardwalk by Jennifer Trampleasure H3-ELP Environmental Leaders Project TVDSB

There seemed to be a lack of birds, turtles and fish today, but I heard the first Cicada of the season here. 10:30 am I expected more, but spotted a pair of downy woodpeckers on my way over to the water testing area.

  • 29 June 2021

Antrim and Rose beach by Morena McDonald

It was hot today but much cooler by the lake! Water is clear, waves are gentle.

  • 29 June 2021

Floating Dock at Spettigue Pond (Site 4) Westminster Ponds ESA by Jennifer Trampleasure H3-ELP Environmental Leaders Project TVDSB

A hot day to be out on the floating dock! Lots of dragon flies, fish were jumping and I could hear frogs croaking, but could not see them. Strangely there were no geese, nor any other birds about this ocassion.

Dock Saunders Pond Site 2 Westminster Ponds ESA Behind London Information Center by Jennifer Trampleasure H3-ELP Environmental Leaders Project TVDSB

Avid birders on the dock this am mentioned seeing two green herons in the area and that they were watching the barn swallows being fed. I have not seen any of the green herons here, but I will keep my eyes open. Barn swallows love to build their nests under the dock. There was actually a real lack of wildlife this am. Rain started during testing here. Aside from the dragon flies and toad, I did not see other wildlife here. Perhaps the on coming hard rainfall had something to do with that. In terms of water clarity - the water is covered here by lily pads and underneath many other varieties of flowering water plants. I can measure .75 m depth here and for the most part the water is clear, but full of plant life.

    Morpeth Pool by Steven Taekema

Tested 3 days after a 3 inch rain. Still lots of access water flowing off the land.
