Weather along Tin Can Beach was sunny with cloudy periods. We were present at Tin Can Beach during low tide and were able to make our way down to the sandy beach today.

On location in Harbour Passage this morning at low tide. Had an opportunity to use new digital portable water equipment to record a more accurate pH as well as water conductivity. Did locate fish alongside the shoreline as well as multiple seagulls.

The clarity of the water was found to be pretty clear, rated as a 9 out of a possible 10-point scale. The weather was partly cloudy this morning in the uptown SJ area.

The clarity of the water was good this morning. The only debris noted were sticks and decaying vegetative growth. There is no canopy cover in the area where water was tested on this day.

We went further down alongside Harbour Passage this morning to conduct our water quality tests. We ended up going along the new addition alongside the structure for the Annual Harbour Tree of Lights Campaign. On the outskirts of the harbour, we could make out a harbour seal on the surface of the water as his head bobbed up and down in the waterway. Weather was excellent - clear skies, sun, and small wind present.

Seaweed was evident along the banks of marsh creek during low tide this morning. In terms of weather, it was overcast with a great deal of humidity in the air.

The clarity of the water was noted to be a 3 as it was quite brown from the sediment being stirred up from the evening rain this past evening. In terms of species, there were some ducks present along the length of the creek and swarms of insects was evident as well. The prevalence of snails throughout the site area was also pronounced this morning.

The pH of this body of water was noted at 6.5 but turned eventually to 8.5 within one minute. The clarity of the water was quite cloudy and the only species noted on this site were seaweed and 2 pairs of either mallard ducks or geese.

The overall condition of this area was cloudy, yet a bank stability of 7 was noted. As for wildlife, there was what appeared to be a duck carcass along the shoreline as well as plenty of seagull life in the harbou itself.

Saint John Harbour Passage by Saint John High Environmentalists
there was a dead bird on the shore, pole in the water with tires on it, metal pipes, piece of tarp (about the size of a piece of paper) in the water, broken pieces of lattice, lots of fish jumping, bricks on shore, lots of wood debris closer to the walking path, no sand, very little rockweed.

Fairweather Brook off of RNS Trail by Roxanne MacKinnon
The riparian area around this site was mostly forested with evergreens (Eastern White cedar and Balsam fir) with some grasses along the stream banks. There was a fallen tree over the brook downstream of the site but the majority of the bank appeared to be stable. The water was very clear and the substrate was mostly cobbles and pebbles with a few boulders and some sand. The width of the brook was 4.7 m and the velocity was 1.36 m/s.

Confluence of Taylor and Fairweather Brooks by Roxanne MacKinnon
A dragonfly larvae was seen crawling on the substrate and a few small minnows were seen swimming around. The brook was measured to be 17 m wide and had no canopy cover. There were some signs of erosion but overall the banks appeared to be stable. The riparian area is dominated by grasses and Speckled alder. There was part of an old beaver dam noted by the outflow of Fairweather Brook.
