Canada
Canada has three sets of federal water quality guidelines:
the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Canadian Water Quality Guidelines,
Health Canada's Guidelines for Canadian Recreational Water Quality, and
Environment and Climate Change Canada's Federal Environmental Quality Guidelines (FEQGs).
We use these on the Water Rangers platform to help interpret monitoring data.
Ontario
This includes and overrides some of the standards and guidelines from Canada.
Ontario's Provincial Water Quality Objectives (PWQOs) are science-based guidelines used to assess and protect the quality of Ontario's surface waters. They establish benchmark concentrations for physical and chemical parameters to support aquatic life, recreation, and healthy freshwater ecosystems.
