Fluorometer in µg/L
A fluorometer is a tool used to measure chlorophyll-a, the green pigment in algae, to find out how much algae is in the water. First, a water sample is collected—sometimes it’s filtered to concentrate the algae. The sample is then placed in the fluorometer. The machine shines a special light (usually blue) onto the sample. If chlorophyll-a is present, it absorbs that light and gives off a red glow. The fluorometer detects this glow and uses it to calculate how much chlorophyll-a is in the water. The more red light it detects, the more algae is likely in the sample. This test helps scientists monitor algae growth, water quality, and early signs of harmful algal blooms.
This test gives results in µg/L.
