Clearville Stream by Rick Sowinski Maggie Jones
Test time was 3:55 pm (see note below on why we were alittle later than usual ) Water was flowing and high. The creek had breached to beach and was direct into Lake Erie. When we first got to our test site there was a photographer taking pictures of birds. She had equipment set up across the site so we decided not to intrude. We acknowledged each other with a smile and she went back to taking pictures .We left to do next site sampling to return after to do our sample not wanting to disturb her any further. We didn't want to start talking and scare any of her prospects off. Upon returning we could see Red winged blackbirds and Yellow Finch s and could hear others but didn't see them. There were a few boats getting pulled out at boat ramp ,which was nice to see open and clear of obstruction and debris. There were a few families at pavillion and beach in front enjoying the day. When I followed the creek to the mouth at lake Erie I talked to a man fishing . He had just got a double header 2 sheep head at once on a pickeral rig. He said last night he also caught a big catfish at mouth of creek. Water was brown ,steady flowing, natural debris ,opaque colour, and opaque in clarity ,little bits of weeds, no odour's

No signs of fishing or people. Could hear birds. Could see little white butterflies (cabbage moths we call them at home in garden) lots of mosquito s. We did testing here alittle early because site #2 was being utilized, we'll come back after this one. Lately we had lots of rain fall .

There were frogs chirping, birds singing, water beetles swimming. Lots of water coverage by lily pads with white flowers. The creek was about 65 %-70 % coverage in lily pads. Natural debris such as tree s and branches. Alittle floating algae (looks like Cyanobacteria ( blue- green ) few small floatig mats of algae . Evidence of fishing as the last 3rd of the creek you can see the path through lilypads from boaters leaving their docks. The water level looked higher than last test. Water was flowing very slowly .Water color was brown . Water clartity was cloudy. There were no odours to water standing on culvert. On right side bank there were Common Birdsfoot Trefoil plants (of the Lotus family) and Red Clover mixed in with grass s ,lots of reeds along shoreline . On North side of road from culvert (facing away from bay) there was about 90 % water coverage from lily pads . More Red Clover to the right mixed in the reeds.
