About this organization
The AQuA project aims to co create and use innovative citizen science tools to measure water quality parameters not typically captured by traditional methods. Its goal is to better understand chemical and microbial contaminants affecting Yorkshire’s rivers and lakes through excellent, inclusive, and engaged environmental science. Working with nine citizen science groups, AQuA is developing testing kits and protocols to monitor pollutants such as pharmaceuticals and bacterial species. By empowering communities to gather high quality data, the project seeks to enhance knowledge, support environmental action, and build trust in citizen generated evidence for improving freshwater ecosystems.
