Location description
Second Depot Lake is the last (ie. southernmost) lake in the chain of Depot and other lakes in the headwaters of the Napanee River Watershed and which marks the northernmost section of the Napanee River. This lake is historically significant because its man-made dam in 1956/7 marked the start of the period of somewhat sustained water levels throughout the year compared to other watersheds in the region (e.g. Salmon River Watershed) which tend to run dry or extremely low during the later Summer months. There are a number of island and other lakeshore camping sites which are only accessible by boat. This lake is a joy to kayak or canoe because there is very little boat traffic throughout the area. Compared to further south in the Napanee Watershed (which is mainly fractured limestone), the headwaters lie in typical Canadian Shield.
