Wind can make this challenging at times (water depths are great than 20 meters and beyond most anchor capabilities)\r\n•\tComplete tests “without” sunglasses as color comparisons are required on some tests!\r\n\r\n1.\tRecord:\r\na.\tDate (Friday April 28)\r\nb.\tTime (5:30 p.m.)\r\nc.\tBody of water (i.e. Sharbot Lake)\r\nd.\tLocation: SLCWB, SLSWB, SLNWB, SLMWB, SLEB or ELFR\r\ne.\tWeather conditions (sunny, some wind)\r\nf.\tWeather in past 24 hours\r\ng.\tObservations: See anything? Smell anything, Wildlife?\r\n\r\n2.\tAir Temperature – using thermometer from kit.\r\na.\tOn shore, hang it in shade, 5 feet above ground. Let it acclimate 5 minutes.\r\nb.\tRecord Air Temperature reading (Suggestion: do this in once in East Basin, once in West Basin and once in Elbow Lake)\r\n\r\n3.\tTravel to site.\r\na.\tUse GPS unit or cell phone to get to documented location.\r\ni.\tMost cell phone MAP Apps will accept GPS coordinates directly into SEARCH box. Eg. 44.223456,-76.45324\r\nb.\tNote: do the best you can to get to & remain in the targeted location. Drifting a few meters is acceptable.\r\n\r\n4.\tConductivity meter.\r\na.\tRemove cap\r\nb.\tTurn it on with top button\r\nc.\tPut testing tip of meter in water, just below surface. Hold it there until it regulates.(5-10 seconds)\r\nd.\tPress middle button (Hold)\r\ne.\tRecord Water Temperature and Conductivity\r\nf.\tTurn off meter\r\n\r\n5.\tSecchi Disk\r\na.\tTest on side of boat with NO glare (shaded side)\r\nb.\tLower it down until you can not see it. Raise it up, lower it again so to verify where you loose sight of disk.\r\nc.\tGrasp rope right at water level. This is your “depth”.\r\nd.\tRecord Secchi depth (there are markings for each meter. You can “fold” each meter to obtain 0.5 meter increments. Or use the tape measure. \r\n\r\n6.\tDissolved Oxygen\r\na.\tOpen black plastic case title CHEMets Kit K-7512. Get out test beaker and one “Ampoule”. Read SAMPLING card, which explains process in detail. Following are key points.\r\nb.\tNote: after getting water sample, complete test QUICKLY as exposure impacts the results. Get sample from BELOW service of lake water.\r\nc.\tGather sample, insert ampoule, tip first and break it off which brings sample into ampoule. Turn ampoule over 2 times and finish with tip.\r\nd.\tWait for 2 minutes.\r\ne.\tCompare to include samples and determine a Dissolved Oxygen reading by placing module next to samples provided and recording data. Example: If between 8 and 10, record 9\r\nf.\tClose black plastic box as light will alter samples!\r\n\r\n7.\tTest “strips”\r\na.\tGet a single strip from small container.\r\nb.\tGet test cup, rinse 3 times.\r\nc.\tGet sample from below lake surface.\r\nd.\tImmerse strip complete in sample for 2-3 seconds.\r\ne.\tCompare EACH of the 3 results, with the container to obtain our reading. Note: only recording 3 of 6 items!\r\nf.\tRecord: pH, Alkalinity and Hardness\r\n\r\n8.\tYour have completed the testing for this site.\r\n9.\tCollect all garbage: strip, glass module tip and ampoule; dispose of appropriately.\r\n10.\tRepeat for all 6 sites.\r\n11.\tLast step.
